K&T’s Guide to Smith Street

Late last year, my good friend Kristel and I were enjoying a coffee at a local cafe during one of our regular catch-up sessions when a sudden, appalling realisation struck: in the six months we’d been housemates, we’d barely explored the area in which we live. Sure, we’d visited a select few cafes and restaurants, and we’d strolled up and down Smith Street several times, but we’d always returned to the same places, those familiar haunts with comfy chairs, great coffee and delicious food.
As a result, we’d experienced very little of what Smith Street has to offer.
Why was this, we asked ourselves. Had we become so accustomed to our surroundings that we felt we didn’t need to look any further? Was it because we weren’t adventurous enough? Were we just lazy? Whatever the reason – work, routine, food preferences, habits – we both agreed we were missing out.
So we decided to do something about it. In January, we began a culinary tour of our local area, working our way up one side of Smith Street and down the other. We write reviews for each place we visit. To date, we’ve eaten at 10 restaurants, pubs or cafes, most of which we’d barely even glanced at before. What we’ve discovered has been a delightful surprise.
Our reviews will be published here regularly. Stay tuned.

I’m looking forward to reading your posts. A friend of mine has a cafe in Smith St (I won’t say which one) but it will be interesting if you visit it and write about it.
At this stage, our cafe-sampling is a bit thin, only because Kristel and I both work weekdays. We usually venture out at nights, and sometimes during the day on weekends. Hopefully we’ll get to review your friend’s cafe!
Thanks for stopping by, threeweeksinnz.
Great start! Keep up the good work!
Eating will always be good work!
